Tailored Farmer Education and Extension

Effective extension services and farmer education are essential pillars of agricultural development. As a business, we are committed to empowering farmers and fostering sustainable farming practices. We place a strong emphasis on providing tailored extension services that address our client’s diverse needs. Our extension services are designed to deliver timely and relevant information, training, and technical assistance to farmers, enabling them to adopt best practices, improve productivity, and enhance resilience to climate change. We employ various channels to disseminate agronomic informations including field demonstrations, farmer field schools, and digital platforms.

Context and Gender Sensitive Extension Services

ICT for Extension: ACENSIA leverages existing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to extend extension services to remote areas and empower farmers with timely information. Our partner, Farmerline, has extensive experience delivering technology-enabled extension services such as voice messages, farmer helplines, and weather information technologies. ACENSIA will work with Farmerline to scale these innovations in the North East region to disseminate agronomic and market information to farmers. Other content includes gender, health, and nutrition.

Community Extension Agents: Our community-based extension agent approach is founded on the principle that local communities are central to the success of agricultural development initiatives. We believe in harnessing the knowledge, resources, and capacities of community members to drive extension service. This approach enables ACENSIA to tap into local expertise, traditions, and innovations; we enrich our programs and promote culturally relevant and context-appropriate solutions.

Tailoring Information: We prioritize tailoring our service and information to ensure our offerings meet the specific needs, preferences, and circumstances of each community we serve. Our approach includes using local experts, using local language, pretesting ideas, applying a gender lens, and collecting feedback on our service. Our approach recognizes that one size does not fit all and that by understanding and responding to our client’s unique characteristics and challenges, we can deliver more meaningful and impactful solutions.

Gender-sensitive Extension Service: Our extension strategy is sensitive to gender dynamics and recognizes and addresses the unique challenges faced by women farmers. Through targeted training sessions, we equip extension agents with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively engage with women farmers, build their capacity, and promote gender equality within agricultural communities.
