Sustainable Agriculture and Productivity

We work closely with farming communities to implement practices that ensure the long-term health of the environment while increasing productivity. We focus on optimizing farming techniques, improving soil health, and promoting organic and eco-friendly farming practices. We promote agroforestry systems that integrate trees into farming landscapes and farmer-managed regeneration (FMNR). We promote minimal tillage, cover crops, and mulching. This practice enhances soil fertility, reduces erosion, and potentially provides additional income through the sale of timber and non-timber forest products.

Our Strategies to Sustainable Agriculture

Promoting Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Practices: Climate change poses a significant threat to agriculture and food security in Ghana. Our programs encourage the adoption of innovative and climate-smart practices, use of weather information, minimal tillage, and organic manure, and data-driven decision-making. Through a combination of scientific knowledge, data-driven approaches, and innovative business solutions, we are dedicated to driving agriculture in North East region and Northern Ghana.

Conservation Agriculture: We provide training and farmer education on conservation agriculture techniques such as minimum tillage, mulching, FMNR, and cover cropping to promote soil conservation, reduce erosion, and improve water retention in the communities we serve. Our strategies promote water harvesting and management practices such as drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling to optimize water use and mitigate the impact of water scarcity on agriculture.

Women in conservation agriculture: Our activities are designed with a gender-sensitive approach to ensure that the unique needs and contributions of women practicing conservation agriculture are acknowledged. We provide tailored training on conservation agriculture and support programs specifically designed to meet the needs of women farmers to foster adoption of eco-friendly techniques.  We ensure gender-disaggregated data and insights to ensure that our strategy on sustainable agriculture effectively address the diverse needs women farmers.

Access to Sustainable  Agriculture Technology: Farmer access to appropriate agricultural technology and techniques on sustainable agriculture can empower farmers to adopt and implement eco-friendly farming practices. Our strategies include scaling successful conservation agriculture  techniques through demonstration fields and creating access to instructional resource on how to adopt these techniques.
